Dig, Lawson, Dig!!!
Actually, it was John Wilson presenting Front Row on Friday, not Mark Lawson... but anyway, I'm sure at least a few readers of this blog might be interested to know that he was interviewing a certain Mr N Cave about the Bad Seeds' new album. Listen again here (the interview's just about 13mins in). You'll hear a few clips of new songs, and the sinister-shadowed* one happens to be on pretty good form.
*thanks to a near impenetrable wall of unnecessarily tall goths, that was about all I could see of him at the Alexandra Palace, a dancing, stalking shadow on the wall. Quite impressive in its own way, though; as you might imagine, Nick Cave's shadow very much suits him.

I heard that whilst driving back - a good interview - ol' Nick sounded younger and peppier than I'd expected. May be it's that accent? Strangely at odds with the material. (In my head, his voice is more like Blixa's.)

I was struck by that at one point too :)
The first time I heard him speak was on some interview disc promo thingy just after Boatman's Call (which, scarily, is about 10 years ago now, apparently) - I was quite surprised by how he sounded back then, but saw him doing some spoken word stuff soon after and got quite used to it. Next to the new, more raucous material on that interview, though, it suddenly stood out again just how nicely he'd fit in discussing literature on Late Review or something. Actually, I'd really like to see that - I bet he'd be pretty good :)
In fact, Nick Cave and Germaine Greer disagreeing about something would be great telly [not that they necessarily would, I just think it would be great telly]. I can just imagine them sitting there seething at each other in the background as the discussion passes to Tom Paulin drawling, "Weeeeeell...", in that wonderful near-horizontal fashion of his.
hahahaha! Yes. I bet he would.
They'd clash, I'm sure - that element of 'No, I'm not coming in for my tea' about him.
(An episode of 'Father Ted' - do you know it - The Old Grey Whistle Theft - when Father Dougal hooks up with a rebellious fag-smoking young priest - we looked at each other and said, 'Nick Cave!'
True Story:
I was leaving a Dinosaur Jr. gig a couple of years ago and literally almost bumped right into Mr. Cave. There was eye contact. There was a squeak (from me). He smiled but said nothing.
I bet he didn't write about it on his blog.
He'd be great on Late Review, but I do recall him discussing some book (details vague) on... something... the radio... about two years ago... and he sounded very authoritative...
